I personally prefer Chipotle, but I’m not a vegetarian like this blogger:

There are two options for the meat-free inclined: the Vegetarian Burrito and the Grilled Vegetable Burrito.

…the Vegetarian Burrito is a white flour tortilla wrap with white rice flavored with cilantro and lime. You can choose between black or pinto beans (I always pick black), and then that is all you get aside from toppings. To keep this burrito vegan, you could only then add salsa and lettuce. Their salsa is very good. I always get the Pico De Gallo, which means “Beak of the Rooster” and it is called this because this particular kind of salsa is a mild, vegetable relish, and the way it has been traditionally eaten is by plucking chunks out with the thumb and forefinger, looking similar to a rooster’s beak. But anyhow, trivia aside, this salsa has tomatoes, onions, some pepper, cilantro, and lime. It’s refreshing and adds a nice tang to the extremely starchy burrito. I usually will ask for extra salsa and less beans and rice. There is also a corn salsa, which is a little spicier (a “medium” salsa), and a salsa verde, which is “hot”.

The Grilled Vegetable Burrito is the same as the Vegetarian Burrito, but it also has seasoned, grilled vegetables added. It usually consists of zuccini, summer squash, and grilled red pepper. Again, you have the choice of black or pinto beans, and it comes with the cilantro-lime rice.

The vegetarian burrito is a little cheaper, and with a good amount of salsa, in my opinion, it’s better than the Grilled Vegetable Burrito.

The company, founded in 1993, boasts “food with integrity” — including, for example, buying pork from outdoor-raised pigs that aren’t given hormones or antibiotics.

Ohio customers get “naturally raised pork and naturally raised chickens,” said Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold, noting that food quality, value and size are among the reasons that the burrito is popular. “Our food is comparable to higher-end restaurants,” he said. The manager of an area Chipotle store said, “We don’t get much competition when it comes to burritos.” Voters agreed.

…as implied by the franchise name Burger king is the king of all burgers. The Whopper is filling, delicious, and oh so personable. While the Wendy’s Classic Single put up a good fight with its convenient and its calorie count. The Whopper is just too damn good to not take the title of the king of all burgers. Flame grilled like straight off the labor day BBQ grill, The Whopper is the definition of the word burger and its freedom to choose its toppings is a reflection of the liberty country where it was born.

And the winner is… The Wendy’s Classic Single.

The Wendy’s Classic Single hamburger is composed of: one quarter pound of beef, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, sliced onions, tomatoes and optional American cheese. This delicious sounding burger is Wendy’s answer to the Big Mac and the Whopper. However unlike its counterparts the Wendy’s classic single is set on a seedless classic style bun. It also differs from the Big Mac and the Whopper with its unorthodox square beef patty. When one envisions a hamburger one naturally pictures a circle shaped beef patty so as to fit perfectly in the circle shaped bun. However Wendy’s opted to use square shaped beef patties giving it an unusual appearance however this does not seem detrimental at all to their hamburgers. If fact I would dare say it makes it more attractive to the pallet. The classic single is served in a thin aluminum wrapper much like the Whopper. However unlike the Whopper the aluminum wrapper of the classic single gives it an edge in that should one decide to place ketchup on wrapper to aid in dipping of fries the ketchup will not eat through the wrapper and make a mess. The taste of the Wendy’s single is a force to be reckoned with, it can also be personalized with respect to its toppings like the Whopper. However Wendy’s unlike Burger king has not adequately advertised this fact to the customers in my opinion. The Wendy’s single also makes the best of the healthy list in that it has significantly less calories then the Whopper or Big Mac. 430 calories total.

The White Castle hamburger is far smaller then the others I have written about in both length and width. It is similar to the Classic Single in that both have chose a unusual square shape for its beef patty however the White Castle hamburger also differs from its counterparts in that it is neither flame grilled nor is it fried. The beef is steam grilled on a bed of chopped onions giving the White Castle hamburger a unique and delicious taste. White Castle hamburgers are also more simply constructed then the other sandwiches mentioned, composed of: grilled onions, a small beef patty, ketchup and a slice of pickle. All on a small seedless bun and served in a box style carton with a slot for easy access and transportation. Now it is important to understand that what the White Castle hamburger lacks in size it makes up for in numbers and price. It is customary that a person ordering hamburgers in White Castle order them in allotments of ten, however a person may purchase as many or as little as he of she wishes. I have personally seen a customer order literally a hundred of these little bursts of flavor. The price of each hamburger bought individually is only about thirty cents making the White Castle hamburger the ideal hamburger for large parties. It also is the champion of the calorie wars depending on the number of burgers one eats as each White Castle hamburger is only 140 calories.

So which of these delicious sandwiches is the best, The Wendy’s Classic Single or The White Castle Hamburger. After a number of exhausting bites I have to conclude that the Wendy’s Classic Single is the better burger. Although I believe whole-heartedly that the White Castle hamburger tastes better, I believe the sheer number of burgers one must consume to get full from White Castle has hurt the franchise. As well as the fact that one is inevitable left with larger amounts of trash to dispose of when one eats White Castle. and unlike the Wendy’s Classic Single, White Castle hamburgers are pretty basic in their composition and cannot be altered to the customers liking.

And the winner is… The Whopper:

…”The Whopper” is definitely a burger with attitude. larger in width then the Big Mac the whopper is composed of: 1/4 pound beef patty, Mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, sliced onion on a sesame seed bun. The whopper unlike its counterpart the Big Mac is Flame Grilled and has optional ingredients such as: bacon, American cheese or mustard. It is also Burger king policy that the customer can omit any ingredient they do not want in their whopper thus giving them greater choice in the creation of their sandwich. The whopper packs a whopper of calories, 760 to be exact.

So which one of these sandwiches is better? It was a hard choice for me, up until the first bite that is. Hands down I must say that Burger king is the king of burgers with their whopper for the following reasons: While the Big Mac does hold its own the flame grilled taste of the whopper gives it a “just off the BBQ” flavor that is to die for. The Big Mac comes in a small personalized box which in my view actually hurts the burger in that it’s a pain to get an initial grip on the sandwich without it falling apart. This is in contrast to the whopper which comes in a classic burger wrapper that can be spread out on the table for easy access. But finally the thing that tipped the scale for me was the “have it your way” policy of Burger king. In this grand liberty driven nation of ours I feel its important that we have the freedom to pick our own ingredients and choose our individual burgers destiny. So I dare say that the whopper is the superior burger as it calls to the patriotic libertarian spirit of all Americans.

From the The Mercury News:

Wendy’s has begun frying its chicken and french fries with nonhydrogenated oil in an attempt to make the food healthier at its 6,000 U.S. restaurants, the company said Wednesday.

The blend of corn and soy oil has zero grams of artery-clogging trans fat per serving and will cut trans fat in those menu items by 95 percent. The country’s third-largest burger chain is the first major fast-food chain to switch to that type of oil for its chicken and fries.

Wendy’s chicken sandwiches, strips and nuggets now have no trans fat. A large order of fries, which had 7 grams of trans fat before the changes, now has 0.5 grams. A kids’ size serving of fries also will be free of trans fat.

Trans fat raises bad cholesterol and lowers good cholesterol. Eating just 5 grams a day raises the risk of heart disease by 25 percent, research shows.

The new oil makes no difference in taste or cost to the company, said Ian Rowden, executive vice president and chief marketing officer. The company said saturated fats are also reduced with the new cooking method.
